If you want your place to look clean with a touch of modern design, then installing a floating counter is a great idea. It will work best in a small contemporary room as it will provide enough space at the bottom of the counter.

If you plan to hire somebody to do the installation for you, it is completely fine. In fact, it might even save you a lot of time and effort. It’s more convenient. However, if you plan to save some money and do it by yourself, then here is how you can attach a floating counter to a wall in your house.

1. Gather all the materials and tools you need.

This includes long and short pieces of pine or granite for the counter tops, a lot of screws, lead pencil, wood glue, electric drill, screwdrivers, stud finder, etc. Don’t forget to get the appropriate and durable counter top brackets. Why? Because this will be the foundation of your floating counter, so it must have enough strength and durability to hold any objects that could be put on the counter top.

Moreover, bring with you a lot of dedication and hard work. You would need it along the process.

2. Place the countertop brackets on your desired wall space.

Use the electric drill to make holes in the wall you’ve chosen. You’ll use this to fit the screws. After that, screw the brackets on the wall with the holes that you made. Secure the screws so that the countertop will have a strong foundation and it would not easily fall down.

Note: This is applicable if you plan to have a granite counter top. However, if you want your countertop to be made out of wood, you can use the stud finder and the electric drill to make holes on the wood so that you can screw the material that acts as the counter top along with the brackets for more security.

3. Glue the countertop.

Glue (if you are using granite) the countertop to the bracket so that it will be secured and steady.

4. Get the area cleaned.

Clean the area that you have worked on to see how your new floating counter top looks like.

5. Test the countertop.

Test your countertop by putting random objects on top of it. If you’re confident about its durability, you can also try sitting on it. Otherwise, just try putting the things you would normally set on top of it.

6. Enjoy it!

Once you’ve verified the durability of your newly installed countertop, you can now enjoy using it.

Final Words

Originally, counter tops are really connected to the top of the cabinets. But as time goes by, trends in designs are slowly shifting into a modernized, space-saving style. Floating countertops address the concern of small apartments and houses. Before you make one though, you have to remember to always double check the materials that you use and make sure that your countertop is strong enough to hold on for a really long time. Lastly, ensure its stability. You don’t want it shaking every time you plan to use it.
